Welcome!

I am an inquisitive soul seeking the molecular marvels of nature through scientific investigations. My journey as a curious kid started in my hometown, Kolkata, a culturally diverse city in the eastern part of India. I completed my education till my Master’s degree in my hometown. Being in the Microbiology Honors program for my bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Calcutta, a centenarian institution, I had enough exposure to the world of experimental research to have an everlasting impact on me. I also have had opportunities to work as a research fellow at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology and at the  Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, both of which enhanced my skills and increased my urge to embark on a career in science. I was determined to pursue my doctoral studies which ultimately brought me to the United States. Now after obtaining my PhD degree, from the prestigious Texas A&M University, studying fungal genetics and genomics, I am ready to expand my horizon to a more interdisciplinary and application based scientific world.

I have had the pleasure of teaching high school students in India and undergraduate students at Texas A&M for several years. It is really rewarding to be able to be a part of their formative years and to be able to contribute and nurture their inclination for science. Whether it was being the support for first generation college students in realizing their full potential or mentoring students for research credits which later lead them to grad schools, I had been fortunate to influence these young minds to help them reach their goals.

Besides academics, I am in love with books, especially fiction and I am into nature and historical documentaries. In order to deal with any challenge, I have two weapons: travelling which revitalizes me and music that refreshes my soul. I am a foodie too and enjoy exploring different cuisines. And, I derive immense happiness if I can make myself useful towards underprivileged kids as I saw many of these bright children in need, while growing up in India.
